I fight him in Lyendell or before on the open area for fun with the great club whilst waiting for DLC. So many believe Trinas lillys are finite items when in reality you can farm as many as you d like from (lesser) cleanrot knights in f.e. Caelid. Takes a bit of grinding and maybe a silver pickled fowl foot or - and the silver scarab but i did for 30min and got like 6 lillys without either whilst trying to get my claws on the cleanrot spear.

Wait actually can't you use parrying dagger? It's a weapon that has parry so you can pull it out instead of a shield to parry and catch them off guard. I also believe you can put the parry skill on a couple of weapon types and it's even goofier on claws. It still doesn't fix the issue of being able to use both the AoW and parry, but it does allow you to parry without the obvious shield in the offhand.

Here's a little helpful tip with recovering as the doctor. You can use down special, the tornado one, and if you spam the button while using it, it makes you go up. You can then use up special as well, because it doesn't send you into free-fall
